Before you Hire a Contractor
When hiring anyone to do any repairs to your home make sure that you request to see a valid City of Tuskegee business license. You can verify the license by calling (334) 720-0500 and ask for the Finance department. You should also have the person you hire to obtain a permit and make sure you see the permit. You can call the same number and ask for the city Inspector’s office to verify the permit. If you ever have a problem with that contractor the city will have all of their information.
I have talked to a couple of people who have had bad experiences with hiring a contractor or someone to do home repairs. I personally hired someone to put in a new door and doorframe. He told me he knew what he was doing but I found out later the guy didn’t know what he was doing. He ended up putting the door and the frame on backward and someone later stole my door. I recently talked to a lady who hired someone to repair her door. The so-called “contractor” did not repair her door properly after he told her he would. He asked for payment and promised to complete the needed repairs and as of the date of this newsletter has not finished.
You can’t be too careful.
